Letter from the BUSD administration regarding the recent condemnation of the high school building:
Remembering the Past, Embracing the Future
As you are aware, the Webber High School building has been off limits to students sense the beginning of the 2015-2016 school year due to mold and structural issues. Meanwhile, the change in the educational environment related to moving from the Webber High School building created additional challenges for students who want to continue their studies effectively. To maintain a balance between such unfavorable conditions and the desired outcomes, students ask to "write my discussion post" and receive help with other assignments online. After almost two years of examining avenues and strategies to restore the building and to explore options to fund such a project; the Illinois State Board of Education, after thorough evaluation and inspections, as it relates to mold and structural problems, issued a final decision. The following is that decision:
The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) staff conducted an on-site inspection of Webber Township High School on Thursday, April 14, 2016. Based upon our observations and a review of the incoming architectural and engineering investigative reports received by ISBE on August 8, 2016, we wish to hereby file this report with the Clinton, Jefferson, Marion, and Washington Counties Regional Office of Education stating that Webber Township High School Building is unsafe and unfit for occupancy. It is our recommendation that a condemnation order be issued in accordance with Illinois School Code Section 3-14.22 until further notice.
Monday, September 19, 2016, the Clinton, Jefferson, Marion, and Washington Counties Regional Office of Education Superintendent, Ron Daniels, delivered the letter of Condemnation to the Bluford Unit School District #318.
The high school students will continue to be housed in the newest addition of the current grade school building while plans move forward to build a new high school addition. The new high school will be an addition to the current grade school building. This will make a complete Pre-k through 12 unit school. The high school addition will have a separate entrance and facilities that provide an optimal high school educational setting for the Webber students.
We are in the process of making application for a grant to build the addition. If approved, the grant will pay between 60 and 75% of the cost for the building project. Also, because of the forced closing, our application will be considered an emergency, therefore, we will move to the top of the Capitol Development list for new construction.
Now is the time to look forward. The immediate future brings us hope of a new, fresh and exciting high school building/addition; an atmosphere in which Webber high school students will have the best possible environment to learn and socialize; a campus in which new memories and traditions will build on the solid foundation. of the past. An education center that will bring pride to the students and community and serve as the home for the Blue and Gold. Trojan Pride will live on!!!!
We will keep you informed on progress as it develops.
